One of ELK’s most popular styles, our Madel Bag is influenced by the simplicity of Scandinavian design. Compact functionality meets stylish sensibility and the raw, unlined nature of the leather makes this a classic style. The adjustable strap can be removed to instantly transform Madel from an everyday shoulder bag into an evening clutch, which seals itself closed with secure double magnets.

Leather is a natural, renewable material made from animal hides that have been preserved and softened through a tanning process. Vegetable tanning is the oldest tanning method, using natural plant tannins without the use of chromium sulphate salts. Plant extracts from roots, bark, leaves, and seeds that are rich in tannins are used to preserve and impart colour into the leather.
This tanning method takes longer, and can be more resource intensive, however it is our preferred tanning method as it uses natural and renewable raw materials. Vegetable tanned leather has a distinct aesthetic and firmer feel, that wears and ages beautifully.
Leather lasts a long time, ages well and is easy to care for and repair. Unlike many synthetic materials, leather develops patina over time and gets better with age. Buying a well-made leather product can be considered an investment and supports the slow fashion ethos of “buying less, buying better”. Leather can be recycled or upcycled, and once it reaches the end of its lifecycle it is biodegradable.
